Stepping Stone Pathway vs Real Interlock Walkway

Should I just use stepping stones for my walkway? It seems so much easier!

Yes it is so much easier. But you probably shouldn’t.

Here is why you shouldn’t.

When you use stepping stones, you have to take careful steps. You cannot push a stroller over the walkway. When it is time to clear a path through the snow in winter, you are as likely to dig up one of the stepping stones as you are to dig up the snow.

Here are why you might want to though.

It is super easy to build.

If it shifts, it’s ok. The stepping stones are already uneven and loose, so shifting doesn’t really make them look worse.

You can let grass and weeds grow around the path and it just looks more natural.

If you just want something to connect your patio to your pool, and it is mostly ornamental and low traffic, a stepping stone walkway is fine.

But it is a poor substitute for a real walkway.

And those are my thoughts on the matter.
